Bermondsey

I know, right? My last post was from JULY 1?? Well, I'm here now and that's the most important thing ;)

A while ago (hee..) I seized the opportunity to attend an artists' open studio tour in Bermondsey, an area I've heard so much of but had never been. The walk down Bermondsey Street was exactly as I'd hoped: refurbished loft space for flats, shops, and design studios, hipster coffee and tea establishments and delicious looking restaurants, pubs and cafes. However, the area I was headed to was just south of that amazing street.. in a more unsavory neighborhood that, like the more northern part of Bermondsey, is next up to be just as artsy-gentrified. But, I made it through to the renovated warehouse/art space with only a few moments of solo anxiety ;)

I thoroughly enjoyed the open studio tour- it reminded me of those I've attended in NE Minneapolis. Annnd had just enough off-the-wall, er, thought-provoking, art to satisfy the ex-contemporary art museum employee in me.  Prior to walking the entire warehouse, one of the organizers of the event gave a little talk about how the show came together. While his name stood out in my mind, I couldn't remember how. I have such a horrible memory. Later after googling his name, I realized I had a 20th century art theory text book from my college days authored by him... whoops! I promise some of my liberal arts schooling has stuck with me.

The overall experience was something I'd always wanted to enjoy here in London, even though the weather was dreadful and I only had my phone camera - who wouldn't like contemporary art in a warehouse studio space located in a hip neighborhood?
